Open-textured, with lovely raspberry and cherry fruit at the core, hinting at cinnamon and rose as the finish lingers. Delicate and inviting.

“Recommended Pinot Noir for Thanksgiving ” The Capital
Although namesake Dick Erath may not be making the wine anymore, his name is still associated with quality pinot noir from Oregon's Willamette Valley. Lots of sweet cherry and plum notes with a hint of smoke and herbs.

The 2009 Pinot Noir Estate Selection reveals the ripe, easy-going personality of the vintage. It is a tasty, forward, easy-to-understand Pinot that like many of the 2009s is in need of greater depth and concentration.

“Outstanding ” Wine Press Northwest
Thankfully, this is the second-largest lot at Erath, and it shows Gary Horner’s skill with blending. Six vineyards contribute, but Battle Creek near Turner, Ore., dominates at 84%. This remarkable definition of Pinot Noir features aromatics akin to strawberry/rhubarb pie, Rainier cherry, black raspberry, fresh cranberry, crushed mint and a strip of cedar. Its flavor profile leads with the cherry, follows with the strawberry/rhubarb compote and finishes with that cranberry. There’s a steady flow of acidity, virtually no tannins and hints of Baker’s chocolate and white pepper in the farewell. If you want give someone a snapshot of Oregon Pinot Noir, send them a bottle of this.

We paired this lovely wine with roast beef although apparently it complements salmon, lamb and duck too. This reserve-quality Pinot is bright and lively, with a bit of a spicy finish.
